JOHN DAVIS' HIKE TO PIKE'S PEAK
Be in prayer for John Davis' hike up to Pike's Peak...
| Friday, July 2, 2010- 19 days to go before the big hike! As you may have noticed, there are no hills around Dillon except for Hillside Drive. This weekend, Teresa and I will be in Atlanta with our daughter Danielle and newly married husband Stephen. I know there is a big hill in Atlanta called Stone Mountain. My training today took me up Stone Mountain and down Stone Mountain three times. It is 1 and 1/2 miles one way. I hiked uphill 4 and 1/2 miles and downhill 4 and 1/2 miles. It took about 45 minutes to make one round trip on the mountain. It is an 825 foot climb from the base of the mountain to the top. Now, let's compare that to Pikes Peak. It is a 6,600 foot climb over 13 miles ending at an elevation of 14,100 feet. It's minute in comparison, but it's a start. God is awesome! |

| Tuesday July 20, 2010- Today is supposed to be my trek to Barr Camp, halfway up the summit to Pikes Peak. But I will not be hiking today because I am back in the wheelchair unable to walk. I do not understand why my legs have failed me again. But this one thing I know for sure; God is in control and He will use this situation for His honor and glory. Romans 8:1 says, For all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose . I am thankful today that no matter my situation that this situation in my life currently will work for the good. I also firmly believe Ephesians 3:20 which says, Our God is able to do more than we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us . Thank you Lord for a beautiful day in Colorado and the beauty of Pikes Peak, which I can see the summit right outside our hotel. My prayer is that God will allow me to have the opportunity to return to this place and hike to Pikes Peak so that He can and will receive the glory He deserves! |
